Two of the MDGs are related to educaion, namely achieving universal primary education (Goal 2) and promoting gender equality and empower women (Goal 3).
The literacy rate has significantly increased over the last 10 years. In rural areas, literacy rate increased from 18% to 31% in the same period. The gap between male and female however is still enormous. At national level, school enollement rate has increased to 74% in 2004, compared to 37% in 1996.
